Redesign Rationale

In this redesign, I decided to center the user, holistically, in every thought possible. What this means to me is that I choose to understand deeply what my user was experiencing when navigating the tasks that I gave them. There should be no reason that my user relies on ctrl f to find information if their functions created to support their search needs. That being said, going into this redesign I ultimately decided to keep the main aesthetics of the original rather than recreate the website entirely. I felt that it was essential for me to keep both my client, GitHub, and my user in mind when redesigning, maintaining a balance of sorts between the needs of the users and the hard work of the designers.
The Paper Prototype
In my paper prototype, you see that I initially wanted to redesign the very structure of the page. Earlier in my user analysis, I break down the design issues that I am addressing in this redesign. The first is the effects of the icon bar. As you can see instead of a small line that lights up black underneath when you click on it, the entire image turns black. The other thing you can see instead of a long page with lots of white space you get a listing of seven boxes that fit within the frame, length and width, of the screen without scrolling. I even sought to redesign the search button, the settings tabs, and info provided on the page. I also make the top bar of the screen a left screen bar that drops vertically instead of horizontal. You also see the social media icons at the top of the screen instead of the bottom for easier access to GitHubs' social media pages.

Redesign
In the actual redesign, you see very little of the changes mentioned in my paper prototype. This is mostly due to me consulting my classmates during a group activity where we were going over our design ideas with each other for the final project. They informed me that my paper prototype was ambitious and it would take much longer to do, and I didn't have time for it. So I ended up deciding to go with a few of my redesign ideas. The first was to keep the black box instead of the black line highlighted over the icon bar to represent which section of the page was being viewed. My second idea was to redesign the social media icons and place them at the top of the screen which was stated before. The most significant redesign decision was instead of making boxes was to keep the GitHub page the same and add horizontal lines through each new section so that the reader could know when they were entering a new part of the page.
